flowers

Here are a few tips for getting the flowers right on your day.

Bouquets and corsages

  • BRIDE’S BOUQUET: This can range from simple posy style to a trail bouquet or even a modern design using a minimal amount of flowers and a variety of interesting foliages, berries and vines.

  • BRIDESMAIDS’ BOUQUETS: These usually complement the bridesmaids’ dresses and are smaller than the bride’s flowers.

  • BUTTONHOLES: There is an increasing focus on buttonholes, with brides using a few of the flowers from their bouquets to create more than a single bloom for the groom.

  • CORSAGES: These are also designed to coordinate with the outfit of the mother of the bride and mother of the groom. The flowers can be worn on the outfit, handbag or the wrist.

At the ceremony

The designs depend on the type of venue, which can range from a church to a park, the reception venue or even a beach. Flowers can make a very striking entrance, with large arrangements on stands taking their cues from the bouquets creating a strong theme.

Colours

Use a contrasting colour to create a brighter bouquet or choose one colour and use its different tones and shades. Try to match flowers and colours through all the floral arrangements to create a unifying theme.

Golden rules

  • Try to choose flowers that are in season.

  • Have confidence in your florist. Let them guide you when it comes to design.

  • Don’t try to do your own flowers – leave it to the professionals. You don’t want broken nails and sore hands on your wedding day!
