The movie of your big day is something you will treasure for years to come. Hopefully, it will become one of your favourite all-time films, watched over and over again by the whole family.
Here are a few things to discuss with any potential videographer before you sign on the dotted line.
- Ask what style of film they shoot. It may be a documentary style, perhaps including shor tinterviews with guests, or they may go more for a cinema-movie style. If possible, have a look at some of their other work.
- How much will it cost and what do you get for your money? Typically, you will have a series of "packages" to choose from. The packages will outline the number of hours the cameraman will be there and other things like the number of DVDs you will receive at the end and how they will be presented. If you are not sure what is included, ask!
- The editing process is what determines the look and feel of the final product. How will it be edited? Who chooses what goes in and what ends up on the "cutting room floor"? And, just as important, who decides on the music to be used? You may have favourite songs tha tyou would like used.
- Be clear how many cameras there will be on the day. Having two cameras makes a huge difference and results in a much more professional final product.
- What kind of lighting will they use – both indoor and outdoor?
- How will they work with your stills photographer? Having two photographers competing with each other and tripping over each other is a recipe for disaster. Ideally, the still and video photographers will have worked together before.
